Industry first as Health Insurance launches app for iPhone and iPad

First and only app to deliver independent news and analysis for the UK health insurance and protection market goes live

Today sees the official launch of the brand new Health Insurance app for iPhone and iPad.

It is the first and only app dedicated to providing independent news and analysis covering the UK health insurance and protection market and is free to download from the App Store now.

Providing up-to-the-minute news, views and analysis, the app gives users access to award-winning journalism wherever and whenever they want it.

Intermediaries will be able to catch up on latest developments in the market on the move, meaning that they can be sure that they are up-to-speed during before going into crucial client meetings.

Users can also access our People Moves section, so they know the very latest appointments from around the industry. The app also gives users easy access to views from our straight-talking columnists, while users can get fast access to the content they want thanks to easy-to-use navigation, split down by product area. Other features include:

Instant access to timely news: the news feed is refreshed automatically or manually and the App homepage gives users a snapshot of the most recent top headlines at any time

Simple navigation to access the specific news users want to read: users can switch between different product areas by swiping through sections or using the "Channel Button". Users can also easily swipe through articles within a specific channel.

The ability to read news on the go - once a news story is uploaded it is "cached" within the App so users can read the news offline anytime, anywhere.

Users can choose how they want to view their news - they can customise their preferences to modify font size and switch between wi-fi and 3G download options.

Development of the app has been sponsored by Exeter Family Friendly which itself has recently launched a dedicated app for intermediaries.

Exeter brand and marketing manager Nick Jones said that with more and more people choosing tablets and smartphones to access media online, he "applauds" Health Insurance for making this "bold and forward-thinking" move

He said: "The protection and healthcare insurance markets have to become more open and approachable to both consumers and advisers. The launch of the Health Insurance app will certainly help the latter, access the news, information, and comment they need on the go.

"Having just launched our first iPad app, to help advisers and consumers quote our modular PMI plan 'Health Choices for Me' in a simple and engaging interface, the fit is a natural one. We're delighted with the positive reaction we have had from advisers so far and are sure that the same will be true of the Health Insurance app."

The Health Insurance app for iPhone and iPad is available free from the App Store here or by visiting the App Store and searching for "Health Insurance magazine".
