Roger Edwards promoted to managing director

Bright Grey and Scottish Provident have announced that former proposition director Roger Edwards has been appointed managing director of the Royal London protection businesses.

His promotion comes after the announcement in May that current managing director Ross Ainslie is to step down in August to return to further education.

Ainslie has been with the business for 10 years and will begin studying for an MSc degree in September. His successor was expected to be an internal appointment.

Edwards (pictured) said: “Whilst we will be sad to see Ross go, I’m delighted to be offered this opportunity.  Both brands are successful in their own marketplaces and have very strong teams behind them.

“I’m very much looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead of me.”

In his current role of proposition director for Bright Grey and Scottish Provident, Edwards has been responsible for marketing, product development and public relations.

He has nearly 20 years’ experience marketing financial services products, 15 of which have been spent specialising in protection.

Meanwhile Royal London has confirmed the line-up of its intermediary leadership team.

Hugh McKee, previously managing director of Caledonian Life, was last week appointed chief executive of the Royal London’s intermediary business.

A managing director for Caledonian Life is expected to be appointed in August, while Ewan Smith – previously Royal London’s group proposition director – has become managing director for pensions, and Jim Smith’s role has changed from sales director at Scottish Life to distribution director for the group.

As well as Edwards, the leadership team is also made up of Alastair Lonie, governance and business planning director, and Ali Law, IT director, whose job titles remain unchanged.

McKee said: “Our commitment to the IFA sector is strong. This new leadership team and reporting structures put us in an excellent position to continue our delivery of top level products and services to our core markets.”
