Skandia looks to enhance protection proposition with key appointment

Arrival of Ian Jefferies points to renewed focus on protection

Skandia has said it is planning to develop its protection proposition further as it announced the appointment of Ian Jefferies in a key role today.

Jefferies, who takes on the role of head of protection for Skandia UK, enjoyed a high profile during his time leading the protection and investment marketing teams at Friends Provident prior to its rebranding as Friends Life, and more recently as head of sales & marketing for Ageas Protect.

His appointment is likely to fuel speculation that Skandia is planning to shake up its protection proposition which currently operates in the high net worth space, specialising in guaranteed whole of life cover and rolling term assurance.

Skandia stopped selling critical illness (CI) insurance in 2010 but last month a Skandia spokesman told Health Insurance that a return to the CI market was "one of many things" it was considering as it looks to evolve its protection proposition.

Skandia today that said Jefferies brings with him "a wealth of experience, market insight and fresh thinking, which will enhance and grow the Skandia protection business".
