Compare the Market boss Winslow awarded CBE in New Year's Honours

Peter Winslow, chief executive of Compare the Market owner BGL Group, and Hayley Parsons, founder and chief executive of Gocompare.com, were recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honours List.

Winslow (pictured), who was awarded the CBE for services to financial services, joined the BGL Group in 1995 as deputy managing director and became group chief executive in 1997. He qualified as a chartered accountant in 1978 and then worked in the publishing industry before moving into financial services.

BGL Group is now one of the UK's largest personal lines insurance brokers and through a number of brands provides access to a range of products including motor, home and commercial insurance. Among the products offered on its Compare the Market website are mortgage payment protection, unemployment, life, health and income protection insurance.

Parsons, meanwhile, was given an OBE for services to the economy. She founded Gocompare.com in 2006.

Also appearing on the list was David John Hall, chairman of Financial Services Compensation Scheme, who was awarded the OBE for services to the financial services industry.
