Zurich paid out 91% of claims for critical illness insurance in 2010, the same proportion as the previous year.
Of claims declined, 8% were due to the definition of the condition not being met while less than 1% were as a result of non disclosure.
The data shows a marginal decrease in the number of critical illness claims paid out in 2010 at 787 compared to 2009 where 814 cases were settled at a value of £62.3m.
Cancer remains the most common condition accounting for half of total critical illness claims paid in 2010. This was followed by heart attack which made up 12% of claims, followed by stroke for 7% and multiple sclerosis for 3% of claims.
