Provider signals further intent with two key appointments
AXA PPP International has made two high profile appointments - in Spain and Africa - as it continues in its bid to become a top three provider in the international private medical insurance (iPMI) market under the leadership of sales & marketing director Kevin Melton and managing director Andrew Coombs.
Derry Andrews (pictured), the former managing director of Clinicare – the domestic UK private medical insurance provider which was later acquired by Groupama – joins as regional manager for Spain.
Andrews was also a director of iPMI provider Goodhealth prior to its acquisition by Aetna, where he became a regional director for its medical insurance business.
In his new role, Andrews, who has also worked for Bupa and Mutual of Omaha International’s UK health arm Health First, will report to Melton. He will be responsible for AXA PPP International’s sales operations in the Iberian Peninsula, including Gibraltar, and Morocco.
Meanwhile, Ed Daniels has been appointed regional director for AXA PPP International’s Africa business. Daniels joins with 18 years of medical insurance experience, most recently at Bupa International and InterGlobal. He will be based in South Africa, where he has lived for the past two years, and will also report to Melton.
The appointments are the latest in a number of high profile hires by AXA PPP International since the provider appointed Coombs and Melton in senior roles in 2009 and 2010 respectively.
They follow the recruitment of Geoff Maggs, formerly of Bupa International and Allianz Worldwide Care, as new business manager last year when the insurer also appointed Laurent Pochat-Cottilloux, formerly of Standard Life Healthcare, as health managing director for Asia.
Earlier this year, Health Insurance reported from AXA PPP International's new HQ in Kent, UK.
